Two guitars. Better than one?

A few songs that just show what good ol' electric guitars can do and when two get together - synergy happens. Here are some great examples.

Wishbone Ash

Wishbone Ash on stage in Charlotte, North Carolina, US, in 1972

Wishbone Ash were school days heroes for me. Founders bassist Martin Turner and drummer Steve Upton searched for a lead guitarist and could not decide between two candidates, Andy Powell and Ted Turner (no relation to Martin). So they both joined.

Their first three albums are all gems - but here are two from the third - Argus (1972).

'Time Was' - a classic of theirs - some 9 mins of a whole range of different style guitar sections

'Throw down the Sword' - lead duet from Andy Powell and Ted Turner - trying to out-do each other on high notes

John Cougar Mellencamp

'Jack and Diane' - The combination of an  initial electric riff - leading to the acoustic main theme. A lovely little ditty.

Joe Walsh

'Life’s Been Good' - Two songs married together says Walsh. I like the lyrics too.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

'Free Bird' - Probably the best air-guitar track in the world.  Turn it up loud and GO FOR IT ! Solo played by Allen Collins and Gary Rossington.
